Matan Wins 25th Florida Laser Masters
54 Sailors from 5 countries and 15 states gathered at Palm Beach Sailing Club to experience great ocean sailing in an 6 to 8 knot southerly on Saturday in balmy 80 degree sunshine.  The RC wisely decided the 25 knot breeze in the ocean could make for unsafe conditions for the fleet so we enjoyed "lake sailing" in 20 plus northerlies on Sunday.  Mike Matan showed his speed in the heavier winds on Sunday to emerge as the winner.  John MacCausland, last year's winner, was 4 points behind to finish as runner-up.  Ian Lineberger beat out Ryan Minth on a tie breaker for third overall.  Ari Barshi was OCS in race 4 removing him from the title contention.  Many of the sailors took advantage of the rig swapping option for Masters sailing and switched to Radial sails on Sunday.  Awards were presented to the top three finishers in each age category.  Overall results include the age handicapping points -- 3 for Apprentice, 2 for Masters, 1 for Grand Master and 0 for Great Grand Masters.  Most of these sailors will be competing Tuesday and Wednesday in the Midweek Madness and Fri, Sat, Sun in the Masters Midwinters East.  Results are at:  http://www.pbsail.org/LaserMasters2008.htm
