The 2009 Pacific Coast Championship for Standard and Radial rigs was held July 17-19 with racing at Cascade Locks in the Columbia River Gorge. Hosted by the Columbia Gorge Racing Association, the PCC's was the culmination of a week's worth of sailing, starting with the District 6 Championship the weekend of July 11-12, followed by a three day racing clinic put on by Brendan Casey, then the famous Laser Blowout - an 18 mile downwind race from Cascade Locks to Hood River - then the PCC's.

82 sailors descended upon Cascade Locks ready to sail in the legendary big breeze of the Columbia River Gorge. Unfortunately, a high pressure ridge to the north of us dominated the weather picture and the sailors had to settle for bright sunshine, temperatures near 90 and wind in the mid-twenties with gusts into the low thirties. Maybe not legendary but Laser sailors are always able to make do with what they are given.

After three days and 12 races, Chris Tulip wins in the Radials, with Josh Larsen, Greg Martinez, Mitchell Kiss and Paul Stewart rounding out the the top five. Top junior in Radials was Greg Martinez, top female was Rebecca Power, top apprentice was John Sturman, top master was Mike Cannon, top grand master was Bruce Braly and Doug Bell took the great grandmaster honors.

Derick Vranizan easily won his second PCC's in the Standard fleet, followed by Brendan Casey, Mike Kalin, Steve Bourdow and Ricardo Montemayor. Top apprentice was Steve Bourdow, top master Tracy Usher, top grandmaster was regatta chairman Bill Symes.
