The 2010 Masters' North American Championships was held August 13-15 in Long Beach, Ca., hosted by the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club and featured fabulous sailing outside the Los Angeles Breakwater on the beautiful waters of the Catalina Channel. The 40 Standard and 20 Radial masters were treated to three days of sunshine and building seabreezes, providing a little something for everyone - 5-8 knots in the early races to a peak of almost 20 knots on Friday afternoon! In the Standard rigs, Kevin Taugher led wire-to-wire with only one hiccup (when he caught some kelp on his blades) to easily take the Apprentice and overall titles. Vann Wilson overcame the adversity of a broken lower section before the start of the penultimate race to take top Master, with Peter Vessella taking the top Grandmaster title. In the Radial fleet, apprentice Dave Leuck ran an impressive string of bullets to close out the regatta and take the title. Go to the ABYC website to see the full results and find the link to photos. |
